Careful cleaning of Moscow Rizhskaya railway station facade
As part of its cultural sponsorship, Kärcher cleaned the facade of the Moscow Rizhskaya railway station on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of Russian railways.
Only six kilometres from the city centre, Rizhskaya station is an important junction for thousands of passengers in Moscow every day. It is also the starting point for the international connection from Moscow to Riga, Latvia – which the main station is named after. The building was constructed from 1897 to 1901.
Within two weeks, cleaning of the historic building was completed
Using a mobile, petrol-driven cold water high-pressure cleaner (type HD 8/20 G) to carefully remove deposits caused mainly by the effects of weather and emissions. The specialists worked from a cherry picker. Over 4,000 m² of bricks and stucco of the grandiose facade have now been restored to their original condition.
Over the past 35 years, Kärcher has carried out over 100 cleaning projects on historic monuments. Restorative cleaning work was carried out, for example, on the colonnades at St. Peter's Square in Rome, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, the over 3,300-years-old Colossi of Memnon in Luxor, Upper Egypt and the presidents' heads at Mount Rushmore. Cleaning is always carried out in cooperation with monument conservators, restorers and art historians
